SKILLS SHOW 2020

Creating a custom branded online event experience

Due to the current COVID pandemic a large proportion of our events clients have chosen to take their events online. For our clients this has meant radically changing their approach to enable them to host sucessful events in this new digital environment.

Skills Show, usually the biggest annual event at the sprawling NEC complex in Birmingham, is no different and this year has chosen to host a series of events virtually.

It’s all about the content!

Content can make or break a virtual event and when approached by Skills Show to create content for their online events we knew it had to have that ‘wow’ factor. Particularly as they needed to keep their target audience of 15-18 year olds interested. We worked hand in hand with the event production team to ensure that the content we developed created an on-screen brand identity that continued the look and feel of Skills Show into the digital space.

Working together with the event producers and project managers Mode 13 we drew up a list of content that would be key to creating a successful, impactful event. This included:

  • Holding pages
  • Countdown clocks
  • Branded agendas
  • Stings, bumpers and various idents
  • Bespoke zoom backgrounds
  • Awards slides and reveals
  • Subtitles

Taking inspiration from the Skills Show brand guidelines and website our designers came up with a theme and a variety of designs that would work well for the audience and could be adapted to create moving content. Once this was signed off by the team we were good to go. With only ten days to the event we set about creating up to 40 bespoke animated pieces of content.

Our stings, bumpers and idents were created to clearly signpost the event and create an overall structure in support of the narrative.

All of the pre recorded interview content and pieces to camera were delivered to us remotely. We spent time editing to tidy up pre-recorded Zoom content placing all contributors on bespoke backgrounds, ensuring space for subtitles.

Prior to the show itself we compiled all of the pre-recorded content, subtitled the entire show and delivered it back to the show team on a timeline that could easily be shared from the event server when it was time to go live.

All of our content elements helped to maintain brand consistency throughout the event. We made sure that all of our content was always upbeat and full of energy and helped the show remain fast paced and fun throughout. Skills show is always a real blast to work on and producing content for an all new virtual edition turned out to be just as much fun!

I can’t recommend Method highly enough. You don’t just get great content and brilliant production, you get peace of mind. Once I’ve briefed the team, they’ve just got it. They understand my clients and deliver great film content, appropriately styled and crucially, on time. The team can either take detailed creative direction or generate entire projects from the ground up. They’re brilliant people, with the right attitude and fantastic production skills. Whether it’s one film or 30, I don’t need to look anywhere else.
